Der Name Minnesota stammt von der Bezeichnung der Dakota (Sioux) Indianer für den Minnesota Fluss - "den Himmel reflektierendes Wasser" - ab. 1858 wurde Minnesota der 32. Staat. Minnesota ist ein wichtiger Lieferant landwirtschaftlicher und industrieller Produkte. Die Geschichte dieses Bundesstaates deckt sich in großen Teilen mit der Geschichte der Entwicklung seiner Naturschätze: Zuerst lockten die Pelztiere in den Wäldern Pelzhändler nach Minnesota. Als nächstes brachte der fruchtbare Boden Bauern aus den östlichen Bundesstaaten und aus Europa in die Region. Die dichten Kiefernwälder zogen Holzfäller aus Maine, Michigan und Wisconsin an. Die landschaftliche Schönheit, die glitzernden Seen und die tiefen Kiefernwälder machen Minnesota zu einem Märchenland für Urlauber. Camper, Kanufahrer und Wanderer können die großen, im Norden gelegenen unberührten Landschaften erforschen.
